A's 100 Good Wishes Quilt and Scrapbook

This square was given to me by a friend and because it was larger and we didn't want to cut it down, it was stitched into the back of the quilt.

There is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. It is to welcome and celebrate a new life. It is a custom to ask or invite 100 people to contribute a single square of material. The 100 pieces of material are sewn together into a quilt. They believe it contains luck, energy, and good wishes from all the family and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation. We also asked for a good wish to go along with the
quilt. We take a scrap of the fabric with the good wish and put them in a scrapbook that goes along with the quilt. A very much enjoys looking at this scrapbook. Of course, I had no prior scrap booking knowledge so a co-worker of mine graciously offered to help me. Without her help I never would have completed this project nor would it have turned out so well.A very sweet friend of mine offered to sew A's quilt. It was a very large project and she was a very busy lady, so for her to offer to do this was a tremendous gift to our family. The quilt turned out beautifully and is a wonderful keepsake for A.

To all those who contributed fabric and good wishes. . . I say "THANK YOU!!" You have given A a gift that she will enjoy forever. And to those two ladies who gave of their time and talents. . .again I say "Thank you with all my heart. You are both amazingly sweet and I will never forget your kindness."
